97th NY Volunteer Infantry, Companies Members of Companies A, D, E, F, G, H, I and K from Herkimer County, NY From "History of Herkimer County, New York" by George A. Hardin and Frank H. Willard, Syracuse, NY: D. Mason and Co., 1893 Our roster of men of the 97th NY State volunteers has been updated with info from the abstracted records of the original Muster Rolls of NYS ( 3 vols., 1864) by Robert Lorick, Editor-at-Large of the Herkimer/Montgomery Counties GenWeb. These early volumes note men who enlisted prior to the 1864 publication. When he studied the 97th's muster roll, Bob was able to pick up a number of men from Cold Brook, Russia, Newport, Ohio, Herkimer and Poland who were not previously noted in the published 1893 county history, as well as several Herkimer County men who were in companies A and K. The * indicates supplementary data in re: spelling variations about some men derived from the 1864 published muster rolls. The official title of the bound volumes of early muster rolls is :"A Record of the Comissioned Officers, Non-Commisioned officers and privates of the regiments which were ORGANIZED IN THE STATE OF NEW YORK and called into the service of the United States to assist in SUPPRESSING THE REBELLION Caused by The Secession of Some of the the Southern States from the Union, A.D. 1861, As Taken From the Muster-In Rolls on File in The ADJUTANT GENERAL'S OFFICE, S.N.Y (Albany, N.Y. : Comstock & Cassidy, Printers, 1864) "

latest update on George H. Bloodough, the Company G. soldier whose letter
home was sent to us by his nephew John Kingsley.
