Note from L. Byrd Bailey:
My father, Samuel Riley Byrd, was the son of John David Byrd who was a brother to James Pharoah Byrd. Their father was Akriel Taylor Byrd. Akriel Taylor and sons John David and James Pharoah are buried at Mount Gilead Baptist Church cemetery which is at the Geneva/Houston Co. line, HWY.41.
James Pharoah reads: J.P. Byrd APR 22, 1893 JAN 2, 1944 FATHER. Beside him is a headstone for Lula Byrd Dec. 5, 1892 MOTHER . She is not buried there. I recently was at Shiloh Baptist cemetery in Hartford, AL and found her buried beside her daughter, Sallie B. Lanton. Lula's headstone reads, Lula S. Byrd WIFE OF JAMES P. BYRD DEC. 11, 1892 Dec. 13, 1958. They are buried in the old cemetery next to the church. On the front row of that same side is her son, James Clifton Byrd, his wife Beatrice Alday Byrd. and two of their son's, Sidney J. Byrd, FEB.14, 1948 -- Dec. 10, 1988 and Randy Chris Byrd Jr., July 19, 1971--Apr. 17, 1990.
