WASHINGTON, July 2, 1935 – Dr. William M. Kenna, senior medical officer of St. Elizabeth Hospital, maintained for the care of mentally disturbed soldiers, died here yesterday of a heart attack. He was found dead in his office soon after he had completed visiting the wards.
A funeral service will be held tomorrow morning in the Roman Catholic Church at Fort Myer and burial with military honors will take place in Arlington National Cemetery.
Dr. Kenna, a native of New Haven, Connecticut, was graduated from the Sheffield Scientific School of Yale in 1890 and from the Yale Medical School in 1892. After hospital service in New York, he became a specialist in nervous disorders in New Haven. When, in 1897, Company C, Second Regiment, Connecticut National Guard, was organized, Dr. Kenna became First Lieutenant, serving three years. During the World War, he was attached to Camp Sheridan, Ninth Division, Montgomery, Alabama, with the rank of Captain with the Medical Corps, specializing in psychiatry. After being honorably discharged the commanding officer gave him the rating on his discharge certificate as “a highly efficient officer of the highest type.” He then became attached to the medical staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital.
His first wife was Miss Jane Dillon of New Haven, who died in 1907. In 1919 he married Bertha Graves of New Haven who survives. He also leaves a sister, Elizabeth Kenna of the Secretary of State office, Hartford, and a brother, Frank Kenna of New Haven. KENNA, WILLIAM M
